who we are

the collective

Grrr! came out of the desire to create a safe space for women of diverse backgrounds to showcase their creative talents. We felt that although belonging to a particular scene is good fun, it is also important to have an open arena where one can branch out from a specific group, or find a whole new form of communal support.

the series

Our event series aims to provide a relaxed and receptive environment where participants can share their unique visions. Each Grrr! installment will have both a planned artist line-up, and an open-mic segment. Though the line-ups may range from the eclectic to the themed, open-mic will keep things spontaneous and accessible.

Events are pay what you can! We want everyone to come, regardless of income level, but we also need a little help paying for the snacks and props that will accommodate you.

the organizers

Grrr! currently has a small committee of ladies who help maintain the series. We come from different disciplinary backgrounds, and  possess varying levels of experience. We have assigned roles that rotate with each installment, and we're always open to questions, and suggestions. We are by no means a fixed committee, we respect a member's wish for hiatus or termination, and we welcome new faces too!

the participants

There are but a few requirements for those who wish to participate in the collective.
We ask that you,
  1. Be woman identified
  2. Be committed to sharing your work after contacting us
  3. Be respectful and supportive of everyone's efforts
Apart from those three points we welcome all genres of artists: writers, musicians, painters, photographers, performance artists, dancers, etc. etc.

We are, however, liable to space, time, and theme constraints which will prevent us from taking on all applicants. This does not mean we will forget about you! We welcome you to contact us again, and we will keep people in mind for future opportunities.

the audience

We wish to stress that, although this is a collective of woman identified artists, we want as varied an audience as possible! You could be a parrot for all we care, so long as you're a parrot who loves art, and the ladies who make it.

There are, alas, certain things that we can do without,
  1. Disrespect towards participants or other audience members
  2. Disrespect towards property where the event is being held
  3. Alcohol or any other recreational drugs
If you can deal with these simple rules, come and join us at the next installment of Grrr!
